10.07.09 by Jim O'Gara

There was a lot of interesting learning about the digital landscape at last week’s AAAA DFW Digital 3.0 Conference. With topics including mobile ad networks to online brand reputation management and behavioral targeting, the presentations were filled with statistics that made us raise an eyebrow or two.

Here is a recap of a few, some that we’d heard but were worth repeating and some that were new news to us:

  • Not only are 96% of Generation Y-ers on a social network, 1 in 8 couples married last year, met on a social network
  • The US mobile Web grew 3.12% in 2009 to 63M users
  • The US mobile Web grew 3.12% in 2009 to 63M users
  • 49% of mobile phone users will buy new phones in 2009
  • 75% of all digital messages sent or received are by phone (including email)
  • By 2012, 25% of all display marketing will use behavioral targeting42% of successful community builders have created their own social network

Predictions for the future included the further explosion of smart phone applications, an increase in the relevant use of augmented reality, and an expansion of 2D barcodes for mobile. Which gives marketers a lot to think about… and a lot to look forward to.
