Take a picture, it’ll last longer.

Oh, how things have changed (and continue to change) in the geosocial universe. Social sites like Eyespot, Bubbleshare, Vox, MingleNow and Veeker — predicted as “hot for 2007” by Mashable — are far from household names, in fact, most don’t even exist anymore. Four short years ago, MySpace was king and today’s rulers, Facebook and Twitter, were just starting to gain traction.

And guess what? It’ll all change again in the blink of an eye. Luckily, the state-of-the-moment has been captured in this infographic (created by Jesse Thomas of JESS3). It shows the current size of the major social networks and online services in relationship to the rest of the universe, with the mobile user base for each as well. Compare it to last year’s to see how much has changed.

Our world moves fast, and sometimes your story can get lost in the shuffle. How do you know which outlets to take a gamble on? There is no crystal ball and it’s not possible to jump on every bandwagon at exactly the right time to ride the wave to brand nirvana. But that’s okay, because sometimes that bandwagon loses a wheel and the whole thing falls apart.

And sometimes it’s Facebook.

The important thing is not so much where the conversation happens but that it happens. AND when it does happen, that your brand is an active participant.
